Peterborough Community Radio Project
Peterborough Community Radio Project, known as Peterborough FM is driven by the delivery of outputs of social benefits, giving everybody the chance to get their voice heard, thanks to the Big Lottery Fund Reaching Communities Programme and the BBC Children In Need Appeal.
The project has been running since 2007 and has so far been broadcasting over the internet and has involved more than 600 volunteers to date.
Peterborough FM Broadcast on air for 28 days in Restricted Service Licensing (RSL) on 87.7 FM, in every summer and in every winter.
The project is expected to apply for a full time Community Radio licence in the summer 2013.
Education and Training
Peterborough FM has been delivering training since the project began in 2007, and currently offers a “basic” 15 hours training programme. Completion of this training is compulsory for all new volunteers wishing to produce a show or present on-air.
Community Understanding and Links
Using radio as a tool, Peterborough FM contributes to regeneration and improved community cohesion and capacity in the city. Peterborough FM is sees as a community resource, to be used by individuals and organisations making up the city’s community. The project brings together people from diverse backgrounds who would not meet each other in the normal course of their lives.
Networking and Support
Peterborough FM – is a member of the Community Media Association (CMA). We will maintain and develop our links with the CMA, continuing to be an active member and assisting that body in its role in developing and supporting the community media sector in the UK.
